ATTENTION: FAILURE TO READ AND OBEY THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS MAY RESULT IN YOUR ENTRIES NOT BEING ACCEPTED OR YOUR HORSES BEING SCRATCHED.

GENERAL CONDITIONS
1. All horses, owners, trainers and riders must be acceptable to the Race Committees.

2. The Race Committees reserve the right to split, combine or cancel any race.

3. The Race Committees reserve the right to refuse any entry.

4. The Race Committees may vary the conditions or courses in any way which may seem in the best interests of the race meets.

5. The Stewards may scratch any horse or rider.

6. An official veterinarian may recommend to the Stewards that an entry be scratched due to unsoundness.

7. The Race Committees and the owners of the properties on which the races are held assume no responsibility for injury or loss incurred by either participants or spectators, and entries are accepted only under the condition that the participants release them from any and all liabilities.

8. Horses must be checked in at the scratch board near the paddock with the Race Day Secretary no later than one hour prior to the post time listed on the overnight sheet of the first race in which they are entered. This will be strictly enforced.

9. Minimum age for all riders will be sixteen. This does not apply to pair and junior races.

10. A junior is a rider who has not reached his or her sixteenth birthday as of 1/1/2008.

11. Junior races are restricted to riders who are not licensed to ride under rules.

12. Ponies may be measured at the Stewards’ discretion.

13. Current coggins tests are required and must be available on race day; likewise a health certificate must accompany horses shipping from outside Virginia.

14. All races will be ridden in proper race or hunting attire and protective head gear. All riders must wear protective vests. Overgirths are required in all races.

15. Riders are responsible for their own lead weights.

16. Horses must be entered and run under registered names.

17. All allowances must be claimed at time of entry. Allowances for maidens apply to the type races (timber, hurdle, flat) in which they are entered. Correct weights are the responsibility of the person making the entry.

18. Mares are allowed eight pounds in races not restricted to fillies or mares.

19. Point-to-points are not sanctioned by the NSA, therefore results will have no effect on a horse's eligibility in sanctioned races.

20. All riders must read and sign waiver of liability forms, and they must be filed at the scratch board near the paddock before being allowed to participate in any race on the Virginia Point-to-Point Circuit. In case of minors the signing of indemnification agreements will be required.

20a. Outriders and all other persons on horses/ponies on the grounds are required to wear protective head gear and to read and sign waiver of liability forms, and these forms must be on file.

21. Workmen's Compensation or personal insurance will be required of all riders. Proof of insurance will be required before being allowed to ride.

22. Races will be split at the Stewards' discretion when there are more than the number of starters allowed in each point-to-point's conditions.

23. Scratch time is 11:00 a.m., the Wednesday prior to the races at (703) 777-2575.

24. The use of turn downs and raised toes (toe grabs) is prohibited. Horses will be scratched or disqualified. A "raised" toe is defined as an extension of the toe that exceeds 1/16 inch in depth.

25. The NSA Rule Book is used where applicable.

26. The Stewards shall exercize immediate supervision, control and regulation of racing at each point to point. Race Day Stewards have the authority to assess fines on trainers and riders for specific infractions of rules. By entering a horse in a VPPA Sanctioned race, trainers and riders agree to abide by those rules governing fines.

27. Pre-race veterinary examinations will be conducted.

28. Lead ponies or horses will be allowed only to take horses to the start and then must clear the race course and remain stationary until the completion of the race. In all races horses or ponies may be led to the start but released when under starter's orders. Exceptions will be at the discretion of the starter.

29. Any rider who falls or is thrown will not be allowed to ride again during the day until he or she is examined and cleared by the official physician and the stewards are so advised by the official physician.

30. Violations of any of the general conditions may result in denial of the right to participate in races on the Virginia Point-to-Point Circuit.

31. Novice Riders over fences will be allowed 10 lbs. in non-series races over fences. (including the novice timber and hurdle series) A novice is a rider who has not won fifteen races over fences prior to 1/1/2008.

32. Every rider in all races must check out and in with the Clerk of Scales. This also applies in races where weight is listed as “catch weights”.



CONDITIONS GOVERNING ENTRIES POINT TO POINTS AND PAIR EVENTS
1. Number cloths will not be issued until entry fees are paid.

2. All entry fees are the responsibility of the person making the entry.

3. Entry fees should be paid by check (not cash) to the Race Clerk when reporting horses in on race day.

4. Entries will not be allowed to start until past year's entry fees have been paid.

5. Failure to pay entry fees in a prompt manner may result in denial of entry privileges.

6. The Racing Secretary reserves the right to extend the closing of entries to facilitate the filling of races. This may apply to a race or races that do not fill at the time of closing.

7. The order of races on race day may be different from the order in the condition book. It is the participant's responsibility to be informed by the overnight sheet or by telephone.

8. All entries by telephone to (703) 777-2575 between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on the Monday preceding the races or by fax (703) 777-3282 or by e-mail at www.centralentryoffice.com. Scratches or changes must be made by 11:00 a.m. the Wednesday preceding the races by telephone, fax or e-mail. POST ENTRIES WILL NOT BE ALLOWED UNLESS AN EXCEPTION IS INCLUDED ON THE OVERNIGHT TO FACILITATE FILLING RACES.


POINTS IN ALL SERIES WILL BE AWARDED TO THE FIRST FOUR FINISHERS: 5-3-2-1. IN THE CASE OF A WALKOVER HALF POINTS WILL BE AWARDED.


(IN ORDER TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR YEAR-END AWARDS HORSES AND OR RIDERS MUST MAKE AT LEAST TWO STARTS AND MUST EARN AT LEAST FIVE POINTS.)

HUNTER PACE CHAMPIONSHIPS
Points awarded in four divisions - Adult Optimum Time, Junior or Adult/Junior Optimum Time, Adult Fast Time and Optimum Time on the Flat. The optimum time divisions over fences and on the flat are sponsored by the Rappahannock Hunt in memory of Mary Mel Lewis-Sweatt. The Michael Power Plate will be awarded to the season-long winner of the fast time division. Donated by the Warrenton Hunt.

HUNTER PACE SERIES CONDITIONS
1. Juniors in pair races are those who have not reached their 16th birthday as of 1/1/2008.

2. Championships are awarded in four divisions: Adult Optimum Time, Junior or Adult/Junior Optimum Time, Fast Time Adults and Optimum Time on the Flat.

3. The Junior or Adult/Junior Optimum Time division is open to pairs of juniors or pairs consisting of an adult and a junior.

4. To accrue points for year-end titles the horse / rider combinations must remain consistent. (The same horse and rider at each meet.)

5. Horses and riders must have fairly hunted for at least six times during the current season with any foxhunting or beagle pack or pony club.

6. Pair members do not have to represent the same hunt.

7. Insurance waivers must be signed before anyone can compete.

8. Distances of the races are about 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 miles.

9. All entries in series races must be made to the Central Entry Office (703) 777-2575 before 11:00 a. m. the Wednesday preceding the event. Entry fee: $30.00 per pair. In order to be eligible for year-end awards in all divisions, entries must be made by 11:00 a. m. Wednesday. Post entries may be allowed by individual point to points, but under no circumstances will points be awarded to post entries.

10. Declare the division in which you are competing at the time of entry.

11. NO SCHOOLING. Courses may be walked in advance.

ENTRY FEES IN POINT-TO-POINT RACES
Unless otherwise noted in the race conditions:

In junior races: entry fee $10.

In all other races: entry fee $25.

In drawn races horses scratched after 11:00 a.m., the Wednesday prior to the races will pay an additional $25.

In pair races: entry fee $30 per pair.

NO POST ENTRIES WILL BE ALLOWED UNLESS AN EXCEPION IS INCLUDED ON THE OVERNIGHT TO FACILITATE FILLING RACES.

VHBPA SPRING FLAT SERIES
The Virginia Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association (VHBPA) is sponsoring a series of flat races for Registered Virgina Bred horses. A Virginia Bred certificate from the Virginia Thoroughbred Association must be available if requested. The VHBPA is offering a $2,000 purse to be paid through the first five finishers for each of these races. Purse distribution in all races: 60% to first, 20% to second, 11% to third, 5% to fourth, 4% to fifth. Races will be carded for Virginia Bred maidens and winners. Point to point winners on the flat are not considered maidens.


VIRGINIA POINT TO POINT CHAMPIONSHIPS & SERIES CONDITION


SEVEN CORNERS OWNER RIDER TIMBER SERIES

For five-year-olds and up ridden by gentlemen owner riders who hunt with any recognized or organized foxhunting or beagle packs whose entry is acceptable to the Seven Corners Committee.
Riders and horses must have hunted six or more times and for at least half of the hunting day with any recognized foxhunting pack during the current season. Certification will be required prior to participation in the series and must be filed with the Central Entry Race Secretary or Race Day Secretary prior to issue of number cloths on race day. Masters must certify in writing that both the horse and rider have hunted regularly and fairly during the current season. Proper certification, which is the responsibility of the owner rider, is to be kept chronicling one's hunting days and signed by the Master(s). Minimum weight as established by conditions of each race, the minimum carried to be not less than 180 lbs. (excepting maiden allowance of 10 lbs. and mare allowance of 8 lbs.) or such lower weight as may be agreed in the paddock by unanimous consent of all riders, competing for Seven Corners points and approved by the Hunt Race Committee. An additional 3 lbs. is to be assessed for each Seven Corners win during a given season, up to a total of 6 lbs. over the base weight. No rider allowances. In the event that a base weight of less than 180 lbs. is set by the entered owner/riders in a given race, the assessed 3 to 6 lb. handicaps will be added to the reduced base weight. Maidens over timber are allowed 10 lbs. In the owner/rider races participants may ride horses that were leased prior to 1/1/2008. Proper certification of authorized agreement between lessee and lessor must be submitted to the Board of Stewards. Series races at Casanova, Rappahannock, Blue Ridge, Piedmont, Old Dominion, and Loudoun. Only five best starts to count toward season championship. ORANGE COUNTY FOXHUNTER TIMBER SERIES
For foxhunter riders (ladies or gentlemen), who have not won two races over fences since 2002 with the exception of pair, old-fashioned or foxhunters-only races, on five-year-olds and up. A rider/horse combination that has won five races over fences prior to 1/1/2008 is not eligible to compete in this series. Riders and horses must have hunted six or more times and for at least half of the hunting day with any recognized foxhunting pack during the current season. Certification will be required prior to participation in the series and must be filed with the Central Entry Race Secretary or Race Day Secretary prior to issue of number cloths on race day. Masters must certify in writing that both the horse and rider have hunted regularly and fairly during the current season. Proper certification, which is the responsibility of the foxhunter owner and rider, is to be kept chronicling one's hunting days and signed by the Master(s). Certification will be required prior to participation in the series and must be filed with the Central Entry Race Secretary or Race Day Secretary prior to issue of number cloths on race day. Weight 170 lbs. Maidens allowed 10 lbs. An additional 3 lbs. is to be assessed for each win during a given season, up to a total of 6 lbs. over the base weight. This race will be combined with the owner/rider timber race unless there are three starters. In combined races the foxhunter finishers will accrue points and eligibility will be affected as if the foxhunter race was a separate event. In combined races the base weight will be 180 lbs. LEADING NOVICE RIDER OVER FENCES

For riders in non-series races over fences who have not won fifteen races over fences prior to 1/1/2008. Points earned in the Amateur/Novice Rider Series and the Novice Timber Series will be counted. Sponsored by Lost Acres Farm.

PAGELAND AMATEUR/NOVICE RIDER HURDLE SERIES
For four-year-olds and up, which have not won under rules since 1/1/06 other than in maiden, claiming races or amateur rider only races and that are ridden by an amateur or novice rider. An amateur is defined as a person who has not been licensed and/or paid as a professional since 2003 and whose primary source of income is not derived from training or riding race horses. A novice is defined as a rider who has not won fifteen races over fences prior to 1/1/08. Weight 170 lbs. Maidens allowed 10 lbs. Riders, who have won under rules over fences since 2005, 5 lbs. extra. For each 2008 series win, 3 lbs. extra up to 6 lbs. over the base weight. In the event that a base weight of less than 170 lbs. is set by the entered riders in a given race, the assessed handicaps will be added to the reduced base weight. No rider allowances will be allowed. Points will be awarded to horse/rider combinations. Only five best starts to count toward season championship. Series races at Casanova, Blue Ridge, Warrenton, Orange County, and Middleburg. There will be a separate award given to the leading owner/rider in the series if not the winner of the series. NOVICE TIMBER HORSE OF THE YEAR
For Five-Year-Olds and Up, which have not won two point to point races or one NSA sanctioned race over timber prior to 1/1/2008. Series races at Casanova, Blue Ridge, Warrenton, Orange County, and Loudoun. Sponsored by the Virginia Gold Cup Association.

VIRGINIA TIMBER HORSE OF THE YEAR

Full points awarded for winning races over fences, half points awarded for winning races on the flat.

JUNIOR FIELD MASTERS CHASE
Open to Junior Riders on Horses or Ponies. For Five-Year-Olds and Up that have fairly hunted with any foxhunting or beagle pack or pony club and if needed, may be asked for Masters certification. Pony and rider combinations will be entered recognizing their respective hunts or pony clubs. Riders are to follow the Field Master at a hunting pace over a flagged course not to exceed two miles and no less than one and one half miles, with obstacles no more than three feet in height. At a point following the last fence, the Field Master will release the field to race for the finish. Trophies awarded in three divisions: small ponies (under 13.0 hands), large ponies (13.0 to 14.2 hands) and horses. Catch weights. Series races at Rappahannock, Blue Ridge, Old Dominion, Loudoun, Virginia Gold Cup. Sponsored by The Chronicle of the Horse.
