2007 VPPA Condition Book
Attention: Failure to read and obey
the following conditions may result in your entries not being accepted
or your horses being scratched.
GENERAL CONDITIONS
1. All horses, owners,
trainers and riders must be acceptable to the Race Committees.
2. The Race Committees
reserve the right to split, combine or cancel any race.
3. The Race Committees
reserve the right to refuse any entry.
4. The Race Committees
may vary the conditions or courses in any way which may seem in the best
interests of the race meets.
5. The Stewards may
scratch any horse or rider.
6. An official
veterinarian may recommend to the Stewards that an entry be scratched
due to unsoundness.
7. The Race Committees
and the owners of the properties on which the races are held assume no
responsibility for injury or loss incurred by either participants or
spectators, and entries are accepted only under the condition that the
participants release them from any and all liabilities.
8. Horses must be checked
in at the scratch board near the paddock with the Race Day Secretary,
Virginia Beach, no later than one hour prior to the post time listed on
the overnight sheet of the first race in which they are entered. This
will be strictly enforced.
9. Minimum age for all
riders will be sixteen. This does not apply to pair and junior races.
10. A junior is a rider
who has not reached his or her sixteenth birthday as of 1/1/2007.
11. Junior races are
restricted to riders who are not licensed to ride under rules.
12. Ponies may be
measured at the Stewards’ discretion.
13. Current coggins tests
are required and must be available on race day; likewise a health
certificate must accompany horses shipping from outside Virginia.
14. All races will be ridden in proper
race or hunting attire and protective head gear. All riders must wear
protective vests.Overgirths are required in all races.
15. Riders are responsible for their
own lead weights.
16. Horses must be entered and run
under registered names.
17. All allowances must be claimed at
time of entry. Allowances for maidens apply to the type races (timber,
hurdle, flat) in which they are entered. Correct weights are the
responsibility of the person making the entry.
18. Mares are allowed eight pounds in
races not restricted to fillies or mares.
19. Point-to-points are not sanctioned
by the NSA, therefore results will have no effect on a horse's
eligibility in sanctioned races.
20. All riders must read and sign
waiver of liability forms, and they must be filed at the scratch board
near the paddock before being allowed to participate in any race on the
Virginia Point-to-Point Circuit. In case of minors the signing of
indemnification agreements will be required.
20a. Outriders and all other persons
on horses/ponies on the
grounds are required to
wear protective head gear and to read and sign waiver of liability
forms, and these forms must be on file.
21. Workmen's
Compensation or personal insurance will be required of all riders. Proof
of insurance will be required before being allowed to ride.
22. Races will be split
at the Stewards' discretion when there are more than the number of
starters allowed in each point-to-point's conditions.
23. Scratch time is 11:00 a.m., the
Wednesday prior to the races at (703) 777-2575. Scratches after this
time may be made until 9:00 a.m. race day with Virginia Beach (540)
364-9595.
24. The use of turn downs and raised
toes (toe grabs) is prohibited. Horses will be scratched or
disqualified. A "raised" toe is defined as an extension of the toe that
exceeds 1/16 inch in depth.
25. The NSA Rule Book is used where
applicable.
26. The Stewards shall exercise
immediate supervision, control and regulation of racing at each point to
point. Race Day Stewards have the authority to assess fines on trainers
and riders for specific infractions of rules. By entering a horse in a
VPPA Sanctioned race, trainers and riders agree to abide by those rules
governing fines.
27. Pre-race veterinary examinations
will be conducted.
28. Lead ponies or horses will be
allowed only to take horses to the start and then must clear the race
course and remain stationary until the completion of the race. In all
races horses or ponies may be led to the start but released when under
starter's orders. Exceptions will be at the discretion of the starter.
29. Any rider who falls or is thrown
will not be allowed to ride again during the day until he or she is
examined and cleared by the official physician and the stewards are so
advised by the official physician.
30. Violations of any of the general
conditions may result in denial of the right to participate in races on
the Virginia Point-to-Point Circuit.
31. Novice Riders over fences will be
allowed 10 lbs. in non-series races over fences. (including the novice
timber and hurdle series) A novice is a rider who has not won fifteen
races over fences prior to 1/1/2007.
32. Every rider in all races must
check out and in with the Clerk of Scales. This also applies in races
where weight is listed as "catch weights".
CONDITIONS GOVERNING ENTRIES
POINT TO POINTS AND PAIR EVENTS
1. Number cloths will not be issued
until entry fees are paid.
2. All entry fees are the
responsibility of the person making the entry.
3. Entry fees should be paid by check
(not cash) to the Race Clerk when reporting horses in on race day.
4. Entries will not be allowed to
start until past year's entry fees have been paid.
5. Failure to pay entry fees in a
prompt manner may result in denial of entry privileges.
6. The Racing Secretary reserves the
right to extend the closing of entries to facilitate the filling of
races. This may apply to a race or races that do not fill at the time of
closing.7. The order of races on race day may be different from the
order in the condition book. It is the participant's responsibility to
be informed by the overnight sheet or by telephone.
8. All entries by
telephone to (703) 777-2575 between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on the
Monday preceding the races or by fax (703) 777-3282 or by web at
www.centralentryoffice.com.
Scratches or changes must be made by 11:00 a.m. the Wednesday preceding
the races by telephone, fax or e-mail. POST ENTRIES WILL NOT BE
ALLOWED UNLESS AN EXCEPTION IS INCLUDED ON THE OVERNIGHT TO FACILITATE
FILLING RACES.
POINTS IN ALL SERIES
WILL BE AWARDED TO THE FIRST FOUR FINISHERS: 5-3-2-1. IN THE CASE OF A
WALKOVER HALF POINTS WILL BE AWARDED.
(In order to be eligible for year-end
awards horses and or riders must make at least two starts and must EARN
at least FIVE POINTS.)

HUNTER PACE CHAMPIONSHIPS
Points awarded in four divisions -
Adult Optimum Time, Junior or Adult/Junior Optimum Time, Adult Fast Time
and Optimum Time on the Flat. The optimum time divisions over
fences and on the flat are sponsored by the Rappahannock Hunt in memory
of Mary Mel Lewis-Sweatt. The Michael Power Plate will be awarded to the
season-long winner of the fast time division. Donated by the Warrenton
Hunt.
HUNTER PACE SERIES CONDITIONS
1. Juniors in pair races are those who have not
reached their 16th birthday as of 1/1/2007.
2. Championships are awarded in four divisions: Adult
Optimum Time, Junior or Adult/Junior Optimum Time, Fast Time Adults and
Optimum Time on the Flat.
3. The Junior or Adult/Junior Optimum
Time division is open to pairs of juniors or pairs consisting of an
adult and a junior.
4. To accrue points for year-end titles the horse /
rider combinations must remain consistent. (The same horse and rider at
each meet.)
5. Horses and riders must have fairly
hunted for at least six times during the current season with any
foxhunting or beagle pack or pony club.
6. Pair members do not have to
represent the same hunt.
7. Insurance waivers must be signed
before anyone can compete.
8. Distances of the races are about 2
1/2 to 3 1/2 miles.
9. All entries in series races must be
made to the Central Entry Office (703) 777-2575 before 11:00 a. m. the
Wednesday preceding the event. Entry fee: $30.00 per pair. In
order to be eligible for year-end awards in all divisions, entries must
be made by 11:00 a. m. Wednesday. Post entries may be allowed by
individual point to points, but under no circumstances will points be
awarded to post entries.
10. Declare the division in which you
are competing at the time of entry.
11. NO SCHOOLING. Courses may be
walked in advance.
ENTRY FEES IN POINT-TO-POINT RACES
Unless otherwise noted in the race
conditions:
In junior races: entry fee $10.
In all other races: entry fee $25.
In drawn races horses scratched after
11:00 a.m., the Wednesday prior to the races will pay an additional $25.
In pair races: entry fee $30 per
pair.
NO POST ENTRIES WILL BE ALLOWED UNLESS
AN EXCEPION IS INCLUDED ON THE OVERNIGHT TO FACILITATE FILLING RACES.

VHBPA SPRING FLAT SERIES
The Virginia Horsemen’s Benevolent and
Protective Association (VHBPA) is sponsoring a series of flat races for
Registered Virgina Bred horses. A Virginia Bred certificate from the
Virginia Thoroughbred Association must be submitted at time of entry.
The VHBPA is offering a $2,000 purse to be paid through the first five
finishers for each of these races. Purse distribution in all races: 60%
to first, 20% to second, 11% to third, 5% to fourth, 4% to fifth. Races
will be carded for Virginia Bred maidens and winners. These races will
be carded if there are 5 entries and will be run if there are 3
starters.

VIRGINIA POINT TO POINT
CHAMPIONSHIPS & SERIES CONDITIONS
PAGELAND AMATEUR/NOVICE RIDER HURDLE SERIES
For four-year-olds and
up, which have not won under rules since 1/1/05 other than in maiden,
claiming races or amateur rider only races and that are ridden by an
amateur or novice rider. An amateur is defined as a person who
has not been licensed and/or paid as a professional since 2002 and whose
primary source of income is not derived from training or riding race
horses. A novice is defined as a rider who has not won fifteen
races over fences prior to 1/1/07. Weight 170 lbs. Maidens allowed
10 lbs. Riders, who have won under rules over fences since 2004, 5 lbs.
extra. For each 2007 series win, 3 lbs. extra up to 6 lbs. over
the base weight. In the event that a base weight of less than 170 lbs.
is set by the entered riders in a given race, the assessed handicaps
will be added to the reduced base weight. No rider allowances will be
allowed. Points will be awarded to horse/rider combinations. Only five
best starts to count toward season championship. Series races at
Casanova, Blue Ridge, Warrenton, Farmington/Keswick, Orange County, and
Middleburg. Only five best starts to count toward season championship.
There will be a separate award given to the leading owner/rider in the

SEVEN CORNERS
OWNER RIDER / FOXHUNTER TIMBER SERIES

For five-year-olds and up ridden by
gentlemen owner riders who hunt with any recognized or organized
foxhunting or beagle packs whose entry is acceptable to the Seven
Corners Committee. (OR) For five-year-olds and up ridden by
foxhunter riders, who have not won a race over fences since 2001 with
the exception of pair, old-fashioned or foxhunters-only races.
Riders and horses must have hunted six or more times and for at least
half of the hunting day with any recognized foxhunting pack during the
current season. Certification will be required prior to participation in
the series and must be filed with the Central Entry Race Secretary or
Race Day Secretary prior to issue of number cloths on race day. Masters
must certify in writing that both the horse and rider have hunted
regularly and fairly during the current season. Proper certification,
which is the responsibility of the owner rider / foxhunter, is to be
kept chronicling one's hunting days and signed by the Master(s). Minimum
weight as established by conditions of each race, the minimum carried to
be not less than 180 lbs. (excepting maiden allowance of 10 lbs. and
mare allowance of 8 lbs.) or such lower weight as may be agreed in the
paddock by unanimous consent of all riders, competing for Seven Corners
points and approved by the Hunt Race Committee. An additional 3 lbs. is
to be assessed for each Seven Corners win during a given season, up to a
total of 6 lbs. over the base weight. No rider allowances. In the event
that a base weight of less than 180 lbs. is set by the entered
owner/riders in a given race, the assessed 3 to 6 lb. handicaps will be
added to the reduced base weight. Maidens over timber are allowed 10
lbs. In the owner/rider races participants may ride horses that were
leased prior to 1/1/2007. Proper certification of authorized agreement
between lessee and lessor must be submitted to the Board of Stewards.
Series races at Casanova, Rappahannock, Blue Ridge, Piedmont, Old
Dominion, Loudoun and Fairfax. Only five best starts to count toward
season championship. Perpetual Trophy donated by Times
Community Papers.
ORANGE COUNTY LEADING FOXHUNTER RIDER
For foxhunter riders,
who have not won a race over fences since 2001 with the exception of
pair, old-fashioned or foxhunters-only races, on five-year-olds and up.
A rider/horse combination that has won five races over fences prior
to 1/1/2007 is not eligible to compete in this series. Riders and horses
must have hunted six or more times and for at least half of the hunting
day with any recognized foxhunting pack during the current season.
Certification will be required prior to participation in the series and
must be filed with the Central Entry Race Secretary or Race Day
Secretary prior to issue of number cloths on race day. Masters must

Junior Field Masters Chase
Open to Junior Riders on Horses or
Ponies. For Five-Year-Olds and Up that have fairly hunted with any
foxhunting or beagle pack or pony club and if needed, may be asked for
Masters certification. Pony and rider combinations will be entered
recognizing their respective hunts or pony clubs. Riders are to follow
the Field Master at a hunting pace over a flagged course not to exceed
two miles and no less than one and one half miles, with obstacles no
more than three feet in height. At a point following the last fence, the
Field Master will release the field to race for the finish. Trophies
awarded in three divisions: small ponies (under 13.0 hands), large
ponies (13.0 to 14.2 hands) and horses. Catch weights. Series races
at Rappahannock, Blue Ridge, Old Dominion, Loudoun, Virginia Gold Cup.

not required to be members of a recognized hunt and horses are not
required to have been fairly hunted. Optimum Time Only.
Third Race – THE LOCUST HILL FLAT RACE

About 3 miles. Optimum Time Only. For
pairs of horses and/or ponies at catch weights. Adults and/or Juniors.
NO JUMPS. Points Count Toward Year-End Awards
ADDITIONAL RACE INFORMATION

must declare fast or optimum time before start of race.

Tuesday the week of the event. Jumps are mostly chicken coops 3' to

Four member relay teams will compete
over identical jump courses (not head-to-head), passing a baton to the
next team member upon course completion. Fastest time, adjusted for
faults, determines advancement within bracket and final trophy and
ribbon placement. Entry composition will determine horse/pony and
junior/adult brackets.
ADDITIONAL RACE INFORMATION
Course walking strongly advised prior to 12:00 p.m.
race day.
Entry fees: $10 junior riders, $20 adult riders, $30
relay teams. The Race Committee reserves the right to combine, split, or
cancel any race.

Directions to the course
From Charlottesville: South on Hwy 29
to Lynchburg, stay on South Lynchburg loop as Hwy 29 becomes Hwy 501, at
traffic light turn left on Hwy 221 towards Forest. Wolf Branch Farm is
approximately 4 miles on the right.
From Roanoke: East on Hwy 460 to CR
811 (traffic light w/Food Lion, Exxon and Sheetz), turn left on CR 811,
in five miles turn left on HWY 221. Wolf Branch Farm is immediately on
the right

ENTRY FEES:
· TASR members and TASR-registered horses ride FREE!
· $35 per horse/adult rider
· $25 per horse/junior rider
· Additional optional $20 fee applies to camp over night
· NO CAMPING FEE APPLIES TO MEMBERS OF THE OAK RIDGE FOX HUNT CLUB, and
ride management encourages all members to camp over and have a great
time!
*20% of overall gross goes directly to Oak Ridge Fox Hunt Club for trail
maintenance and improvements, which will hopefully lead to better future
rides!
MEAL:
· TASR-sponsored meal included in entry fee; $5.75 for noncompetitors;
meal ticket will be dispensed with every paid entry; noncompetitors may
buy at food stand
· Alcohol consumption is prohibited prior to competing; however, riders
may certainly drink their wine in celebration after successful
completion.
CAMPING: Overnight camping is not required for this event; however, any
rider can camp over night if desired. There
is an additional $20 camping fee for overnight camping. (Not applicable
to members of Oak Ridge Fox Hunt Club) Riders
desiring to camp over will need to bring their own tents and camping
gear and MUST NOTIFY RIDE MANAGEMENT
PRIOR TO EVENT OF INTENT TO CAMP OVER.
DIVISIONS:
· FULL CRY has pace similar to actual foxhunt following hounds in full
cry over jumps
· SECOND FLIGHT has a pace similar to following the hounds in full cry
without jumps
· BEGINNERS division has a slow, ride-at-your-own pace to safely
introduce beginning adults and juniors to the sport of foxhunting. Jumps
are 100% optional. Mr. David Wheeler, MASTER of the FOX HOUNDS PRESIDING
TEAMS:
· Teams must consist of two riders for FULL CRY & SECOND FLIGHT
divisions.
· Teams can consist of any number of riders for the BEGINNER division
COURSE:
· The course will be one 10-mile loop that will be run over the groomed
Oakridge Fox Hunt Club trails following wooded trails, rolling hills,
and mountain ridges within the grounds of the spectacular Oak Ridge
Estate. There are multiple stream crossings and multitudes of wildlife.
· Jumps will ideally be natural, however, some artificial jumps may be
added.
AWARDS:
· TASR-sponsored BEST THOROUGHBRED & ANGLO (1/2 thoroughbred)
· Ribbons for 1st to 6th place in each division with two ribbons per
team
· TASR completion certificates for everyone
· T-shirts & trophies accordingly
· No fastest time award! (Sorry, but this is to prevent and discourage
injuries!)
· Optimal time in each division is winner!
· Farthest commute award for competitor with longest commute!
REQUIREMENTS:
· Physically fit horse and rider an absolute must! No horses under 5 can
ride in the FULL CRY & SECOND FLIGHT divisions. Horses 3 and older can
compete in the BEGINNERS division.
· Negative Coggins within last 12 months required in order to enter
estate grounds
· Signed waiver of liability
· Pre-registration prior to event encouraged, however entry is also open
morning of
· Further estate and TASR rules and regulations as outlined on entry
form and as outlined at pre-ride meeting
· All riders are encouraged to attend pre-ride meeting; Late comers who
miss pre-ride meeting will have brief overview prior to hitting trail
TACK/DRESS:
· Dress is informal for all three divisions but hunt attire for Oak
Ridge Fox Hunt Club members is encouraged
· English tack is recommended for FULL CRY & SECOND FLIGHT divisions
· Any tack including western applies for BEGINNERS division. No bareback
pads or bareback riding!
· ALL riders must wear helmets. NO EXCEPTIONS!
DIRECTIONS: Ride management encourages participants to obtain on-line
directions via Yahoo Maps or MapQuest. Oak Ridge Estate is approximately
30 minutes from Chartlottesville, Virginia.
Coming from NORTH: In Chartlottesville take 29 South @ 2 miles past
Lovingston make a LEFT on Rte 653, which is Oak Ridge Road. Watch for
and follow the TASR signs into camp
Coming from SOUTH: In Lynchburg take 29 North and just past Colleen make
a RIGHT onto Rte 653, which is Oak Ridge Road. Watch for and follow the
TASR signs into camp
